ESP32 Screen (Entrance Display) ยท last updated 26 October 2026
ESP32 Screen is a personal device used only by its owner. This page explains what it does with Google account data.
What it accesses
With the owner's permission, through Google's Smart Device Management API, it reads the owner's Nest thermostat: temperature, humidity, mode, heating status, target temperature and the room name. When the owner taps the screen, it sends commands to change the thermostat's mode or target temperature. It does not access any other Google data.
Where the data goes
- Thermostat readings are shown on the screen and kept in the device's memory only. They are not sent to any server other than Google's own API.
- The Google sign-in token is stored only on the device itself.
- No data is sold, shared with anyone or used for advertising. There are no analytics.
Other services
To show the weather and the S&P 500, the device contacts Open-Meteo, ip-api.com (to find the approximate location for the weather) and Yahoo Finance. None of these receive Google account data.
Removing access
The owner can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions or in the Google Home app, and can clear the stored token from the device's settings page.
